Before you bid: always check for a buyer’s premium and VAT on top of the hammer price, ask about viewing days before bidding on anything you haven’t seen in person, and factor in your own dismantling and collection costs — most of these are sold “as is, where is.” Register and set up your account with the auctioneer well ahead of the close, since most require ID and payment details on file before you can bid. And for bigger-ticket items, it’s worth checking what finance options are available to you before the auction starts — some auctioneers offer this directly, others work with third-party providers, and having it sorted in advance means you’re not scrambling if you win.
